Through a program that emphasizes all aspects of student growth ― academic, social/emotional, physical, creative, and moral ― The Country School is committed to educating the whole child. Our curriculum calls for active, hands-on learning centered around a foundation of challenging academics, with a focus on the traditional disciplines of reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, and global language.

Hands on Learning at The Country School

The Country School balances our rigorous academic program with vital offerings in the arts and athletics and an equally strong commitment to affective education. Our innovative STEAM program (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math) fosters the development of 21st century skills, while our other signature programs ― Elmore Leadership, Outdoor Education, and Public Speaking ― help develop thoughtful, confident leaders capable of tackling the challenges this generation is likely to face in the future.

Commitment to the individual student

Commitment to each child is the hallmark of The Country School experience. Dynamic teachers form positive and supportive relationships with each student. At The Country School, we strive to nurture each child, valuing his or her unique gifts in an atmosphere of mutual respect.

Spirited teaching, active learning

We believe that learning should be a dynamic, hands-on, engaging process. When you walk into a classroom at The Country School, you will notice an energy and vitality as students and teachers engage in dialogue, exploration, and discovery together.

Honoring childhood

Although we firmly believe in an academic program that challenges our students to reach their highest, we also believe in the value of play. Each day, children at The Country School stretch themselves academically, socially, creatively, and physically, but they are also given time to simply be children. At TCS, every student, whether age 3 or age 14, enjoys outdoor recess every day.

A Proven Track Record

The quality of our academic program can be demonstrated by the placement and performance of our alumni in high school and college (click here) or by measurable indicators such as a recent mathematics test administered by the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools in which Country School students placed in the top tier worldwide (click here). The best testament to the quality of our program, however, can be provided by our alumni. Click here for Alumni Voices.
