The Country School, a private day school in Madison, Connecticut, is a dynamic learning community where students in PreSchool through Grade 8 are encouraged to reach their highest, not only in school but also in life. At The Country School, learning comes alive each day through hands-on exploration and discovery. Inspired teachers, small class sizes, and a culture that fosters a feeling of family allow for strong bonds to develop between students and teachers, so when students are tasked with trying something new — whether it's learning a math formula or scaling a rock face on an outdoor education trip — they face the challenge with confidence and determination.
Rigorous Academics and Signature Programs
Our program starts with rigorous academics. Because we believe in preparing our students for success in the world they will inhabit, The Country School is committed to advancing 21st century skills, including critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. Signature programs such as STEAM (cross-curricular science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), Outdoor Education, Elmore Leadership, and Public Speaking are some key areas in which we foster these skill sets. Because we seek to educate the whole child, The Country School is also committed to a vital arts program, strong offerings in physical education, and challenging opportunities for individual growth.
Our school has a library, science and STEAM labs, state-of-the-art athletic fields, an art studio, and so much more, but our largest — and most valued — classroom by far is our 23-acre campus. Each day, our students enjoy a classroom without walls, conducting science experiments in our Children's Garden, collecting specimens on the nature trail, or learning what it means to be a friend during outdoor recess.
This is an exciting time to be a member of The Country School community. In recognition of our 60th Anniversary, we have embarked on Shaping the Future, an ambitious campaign to transform our campus and The Country School experience. During the 2015-2016 school year, our athletic facilities were dramatically expanded, with two side-by-side soccer fields, a baseball and softball diamond, and four tennis courts among the highlights. We also added and improved playgrounds. In the second phase of our campaign, we began transforming the center of our campus to a pedestrian village for learning, rethinking collaborative spaces, both indoor and out, and making aesthetic and programmatic enhancements. We will also expand support for our teachers and financial aid for our students. Learn more.
Creating Confident, Contributing, Caring People
At The Country School, we are proud of our academic program, which prepares students to excel in high school and beyond, and our alumni attend some of the finest secondary schools and colleges in the country. But when we speak to our graduates, they tell us that what matters most to them is not the diploma or degree they hold from a specific institution; it is the person they became. Many of them directly attribute that to The Country School, the independent day school in New Haven County, where they spent their formative PreSchool, Lower School, Intermediate, and Middle School years.
