The National Junior Olympics XC Championships Results

The Country School running owls unfurled their wings to fly to Kentucky to compete Saturday in the National Junior Olympics XC Championships. All came across the finish line as the fastest racer or one of the fastest racers in Connecticut, with Lexie K. finishing in the top 25 in the United States to win All American honors and a medal.

The five earned the invitation to compete in Louisville representing Litchfield Track Club’s Racing Team by finishing in top positions in Connecticut in mid-November and then, one week later, performing equally well against racers in all of New England and New York.

Lexie was first off Saturday morning, tackling the opening 400 meters with patience in the 8&U division and then holding her own in the maniacal final 600 meter sprint to post her fastest time ever. Against 220 competitors over the 2 km (1.26) mile course, Lexie took 1st place within Connecticut and all of New England to become an All-American by finishing in 23rd place.

Newcomer Luke O., also competing in the eight and under division, battled hard against 266 competitors from 42 different states to finish first in Connecticut and fourth in all of New England. Luke notched his fastest time of the season to earn his pizza and pool party that evening.

Veteran Junior Olympian Harper M., racing against 362 competitors over the 3 km (1.86 mile course), used guts and fortitude to finish first in Connecticut and 11th in New England before hitting the swag tent for a memento.

All American Junior Olympian Liv K. also took first place among the Connecticut racers and first in all of New England while traversing the rolling hills of grass and dirt. Liv covered the distance as fast as she ever has to complete her outstanding season of racing as a top varsity runner this fall as only a 5th grader.

Multiple All American Tillie K. nabbed repeat honors by finishing first in Connecticut and second in New England among 410 competitors. Tillie’s pace was her fastest of the season over that distance and bodes well for future progress as some of the runners settle in for the indoor track season.
