Cross Country - Hopkins Invitational

Cross Country Coaches
?On Wednesday, October 18, at an invitational meet hosted by Hopkins School, The Country School Boys and Girls Cross Country teams hopped on Hopkins, hauled against Hamden Hall, and rebuked Renbrook to run their season’s records to 22 wins and 0 losses and 24 wins and 0 losses, with the girls remaining undefeated for over three years. The girls raced first and took second, third, fourth, sixth and 17th, covering the 3 km course with strong team clustering. As she has all season, Tillie K led the team, tracked confidently by Maribel S, who was chased by Liv K. Running perhaps her best race of the year, Anna G nabbed the important fourth spot for the team, with fifth grader Lucy C nailing down the fifth team scoring spot. Emma F ran an encouraging race while overlooking the skyline of New Haven, pulling fifth grader Fiona W right behind her by only one second. Nailing down the team scoring, taking 35th Pl., was newcomer Brynn D, showing great promise for races to follow. The boys race was a barnburner, with Captains Luke S and Will L eventually taking first and second place by quite a distance, being led and then pursued gamely by a strong Renbrook runner. When the dust from the grass and gravel course settled, Country School had taken first, second, fourth, fifth, sixth, ninth and 12th to dispatch the competition. Behind Luke and Will in first and second were impressive eighth grader Henrik S, fourth overall in his fastest this time of the season, followed by seventh grader, Zach B, who was chased by stalwart Tash F, sixth place. Now that he’s starting to overcome an injury, eighth grader Liam M snagged the important sixth displacing position for Country School, pulling sixth grader Henry L along behind them, with Henry sprinting mightily to hold off two hard charging Hopkins runners. Kieran F took 15th Pl., in a strong time, followed by newcomer fifth grader Sam C, 18th Pl. The teams race is Wednesday in the Hamden Hall Invitational and then, 10 days later, in the Connecticut State Championships, where the girls will defend their winning title.
