On the second day of our March break, twenty-five intrepid students took part in the Model UN Conference hosted by the Kingswood-Oxford School in West Hartford. Due to the Covid pandemic, the 9th Annual KOMUN event was held virtually using our new, best friend, Zoom. The Country School delegates represented six different countries and spent the day debating, collaborating and coming up with solutions to issues dealing with education in the world. In the weeks leading up to the event, the delegates researched how education is not equitably available and this has been exacerbated by the Covid 19 Pandemic. The charge of each committee was to create resolutions that would help level the playing field and debated different methods for helping all children in the world gain access to a good education. Here are the students who represented the following countries:
Canada - Keenan B., Ana D., Julia S.
China - Evelyn R., Milo B., Christopher Y., Oli S., Alexander M.
Brazil - Will B., Joshua R., Harrison H., Emily D.
Sweden - Andrew H., Grace B., Sadie F., Devri A.
United Kingdom - Elizabeth R., Alexander S., Rosie Li., Rosie Le., Maddy C.
India - Meghan B., Lucy B., Natalie Y., Chloe N.
The upper school students from KO ran each of the five committees and selected delegates who stood out during the day. The following students from The Country School were recognized for their contributions:
Outstanding Delegate: Harrison H., Natalie Y.
Honorable Delegate: Milo B., Alexander M., Joshua R., Christopher Y.
Congratulations to all the delegates who participated! It certainly was a rewarding and exhausting experience. Kingswood-Oxford does a wonderful job organizing the event and is looking forward to hosting their 10th Model UN event next fall.
