"The Magnificence in Middlefield" Country Girls' Cross Country Remain Undefeated.

The girls cross country team Thursday won the IDS Invitational to remain undefeated for two straight seasons, while the boys were triumphant against the five teams, also winning for a sweep of the IDS Invitational.

The Magnificence in Middlefield was led by Luke Schupp, who chased a strong Foote runner over the entire 1.5 mile course to nab second place by only a couple of seconds. Crossover soccer athlete Will Laurans flashed across the line in 3rd place, securing critical low points for the Owls.

Breathless Battling Brothers Keve and Tash Frusztajer raced across the line next, in 5th and 8th place respectively, assuring the victory against Foote, OLM Prep, Saint Peter and Paul, and IDS.

Showing powerful form to come, Nathaniel Schultz, Keiran Freeman and Henry Laurans came across in 13th place, 15th place and 18th place, displacing runners from the competitors schools. Rounding out the team victory were Kai Lee, Matt Perrotti, Levi Aronson, and Frank DeFlippo.

The boys then got to drink water and eat snacks while watching the girls squad toe the grass starting line with gold and blue ribbons flying in their hair. When the gun went off, a competitor shot into the lead, challenging the female Owls to flap hard their wings to keep up. After 1000 meters Laila Goodman cut the 30 meter gap in half against the front runner, and then teammate Tillie Killam surged aggressively to take herself and Laila past the leader. The race came down to a final sprint, with All-Americans Laila winning and Tillie taking second.

A break-out performance by Maribel, garnering a hard-earned fourth place, inspired the coaches, who then saw fleet-footed fourth grader Liv Killam nab 5th place. The next two Owls to swoop across the finish line, Quinn Freeman and Anna Gunderson, took 7th and 8th place respectively, with Maybe Hladky only seconds behind them to secure the 9th place spot to assure The Country School victory for the girls.

Ever reliable Caroline Rogers, Sam Sigal and Eloise Lafferty came in with grit and determination while being cheered on by teammates.

All runners then made a beeline for the big hill at IDS, running up the hill and rolling down with squeals and delight.
