TCS Notches Season's First Win in Tight 8-7 Contest

Coach McDonough
Despite falling into an 0-2 hole early, the TCS JV Ultimate Frisbee team fought back against the St. John Paul II School’s varsity team, earning their first win of the season in tremendous fashion. With the sun shining brightly, the squad made the most of a 30 minute game (the second in a Varsity/JV doubleheader), scoring on a variety of tosses, capitalizing on turnovers and protecting the disc in the midfield.

Stressing the importance of clearing the frisbee in their own end, the team fought back early, tying the game 2-2 on deep enzone strikes from Harper to Gideon and Gideon to Cam. From there, the back-and-forth scoring would continue until Country took their first lead at 6-5. During the flurry of scoring, Harper notched his second assist of the game on a forehand toss that extended over half the field before landing in the leaping grasp of Sam C. Cam had a pass to Gideon to tie the game at 4-4, while Jake secured his first assist of the game by threading a short shot to Sam C. As a thank-you to Jake, the next two scores were from Sam to Jake (the last of which gave them a 7-5 lead). The final score of the game for the Owls was a nice wind-aided arcing pass from Gideon to Emily as she raced to the left corner of the endzone. St. John Paul would score as the buzzer sounded to draw within 1, but the final score of 8-7 was all the young owls needed to secure the victory, moving to 1-1 on the season.

Next up for the Owls is a home game against Foote on Thursday.
