The Country School Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country Teams claimed 1st places at their first home meet

The Country School Boys’ and Girls’ cross country teams claimed 1st places at their first home meet, against rival Williams School. The boys’ team claimed places first through sixth with a dominant showing. They scored a perfect total of 15 points with the scoring order of 1-2-3-4-5-6-8-9-10-11-12-13.First place was claimed by 7th grader Luke Schupp with a personal best time of 12:06, and second place was claimed by fellow 7th grader, Will Laurans, also with a personal record. Continuing the fast flock of Owls was eighth grade captain Alex Monin, third place, chased by 7th grader Keve Frusztajer and his tenacious brother, fifth grade stalwart, Tash Frusztajer. Henry Laurans and Nathaniel Schultz rounded out the top 7 to cross the finish line, coming across three abreast with a Williams runner in the most thrilling finish line duel of the day.Rounding out the winning team were Kieran Freeman, 9th, and Harper Merrill, 10th, both running their first varsity races. Frankie DiFlippo, Levi Arronson and Ben Lipschutz nabbed the last spots, running in a tight pack until Frankie pulled away over the last 800 meters.On the girls’ side, it was an even more commanding run as they also claimed a perfect 15 points with a scoring order of 1-2-3-4-5-6-7, plus 9-10-11. The girls are now undefeated over two seasons.All American stars Laila Goodman and Tillie Killam kicked off the scoring for the Country school, both running personal records to take first and second, with times of 12:42 and 12:45 respectively.Fourth grade All American racer, Liv K., took third overall, being chased to the finish line by reliable Maribel Smith, a sixth grader, and Anna Gunderson, sixth grade, both setting personal records on their home course.Rounding out the perfect top seven were fifth grader Quinn Freeman and 7th grader Maybe Hladky.Three more owls flew across the finish line, in ninth 10th 11th Pl., with veteran racers Caroline Rogers, Samantha Siegel, and Eloise Lafferty rounding out the scoring. The Owls race this coming Thursday away at Independent Day School.
