Country School Cryptocurrency Enthusiasts Create Fantasy NFT Project

The Inquisitive Owl “Country” Club (IOCC) is the brainchild of a group of Elmore Leaders at The Country School. Spearheaded by 8th Graders Milo Burch, Harrison Hodge, and Christopher Yuh of Madison, the Inquisitive Owl “Country” Club is a group of student artists, entrepreneurs, and cryptocurrency enthusiasts who are fascinated by the ways creativity and art are shifting the global and digital economic landscape–and the ways we place value on things–today. They’ve partnered with their history teacher (and Country School Director of Community Engagement) Will McDonough on the following project as described in this video

Based upon the ever-growing list of Non-Fungible Token (NFT) collections (Bored Ape Yacht Club being the most prominent), the club’s members have invited their classmates, teachers, and  alumni of the school to support their Fantasy NFT project by creating an original version of the Inquisitive Owl, designed by Country School alumnus, Micah Stahl ’01, a cartoonist, animator, and writer in Los Angeles. Each Inquisitive Owl will become a unique manifestation within this elite “Country” Club, allowing community members to bid on an owl at the school’s spring auction with proceeds benefiting Tuition Assistance at The Country School.
This project will not be an actual NFT Collection in that there will not be any sales using blockchain, cryptocurrency, or websites like OpenSea. Accordingly, artists will not receive any proceeds from their artwork. “Rather,” noted McDonough, “it represents an opportunity to embrace the spirit of fun-loving creativity and initiative at The Country School and to connect our broader community with this group of inspiring student leaders who are exploring how art, scarcity, and exclusivity can create real value and growth.”

On April 7, The Country School will host a student-moderated virtual panel discussion about this project and the impact of NFTs, Cryptocurrency, Virtual Reality, the Metaverse, and the future of art and innovation with Dave Chenell (Designer and animator at Normal), Rory Tait (Asset Acquisition & Operations at Rally), and Dan Roberts (Editor-at-Large at Decrypt).  Anticipating the event, Christopher Yuh said, "I'm interested to see where the world is going; as our moderators are at the forefront of current technological advancements. There is just so much to learn from them."

Founded in 1955, The Country School serves students in PreSchool-Grade 8 on its 23-acre campus in Madison. Elmore Leadership, a Signature Program modeled after former Trustee Bill Elmore, provides opportunities for students to embrace leadership opportunities in the school community and beyond.   Learn more about this event, which is open to the public, by contacting Will McDonough.
