Dear Country School Community

For more than 65 years, The Country School has provided a dynamic learning community where students in PreSchool through Grade 8 are encouraged to reach their highest potential, in school and  in life. The founders of The Country School appreciated the importance of a private, independent school education.

Gifts to The Country School are gratefully appreciated and critically essential to sustaining the world class education that our students experience every day. Like all independent schools, tuition alone does not cover the full cost of educating our students.

The Country School is a small school and every gift—of any size—makes a meaningful impact. Your gift supports the important work we do today and strengthens our school for tomorrow.

From our modest but noble founding 65 years ago, parents (past and present), alumni, trustees, grandparents, friends, businesses, and foundations have supported our mission through donations to the Annual Fund, Founders’ Promise Fund for Scholarship, Endowment, and Capital. It is through this generosity that The Country School has become what it is today.

In gratitude,
Nicole Cretella Burke
Director of Development

What are the differences between the funds at TCS?

List of 3 items.

  • Annual Fund

    What it is
Money for TCS's current-year operating expenses.

    What it buys
Teacher salaries and benefits, scholarships, and programs/curriculum that are essential to carry out our mission.

    Practical Equivalent
Checking account that helps TCS accomplish its daily work of educating your children.

    Tax deductible?
Yes, but consult your tax advisor for details.
  • Endowment

    What it is
Account that generates interest income for operating expenses. Principal is not spent.

    What it buys
Takes the pressure off the operating budget by supplying TCS with interest income. The larger the endowment, the higher the interest income for salaries, scholarship, and programs.

    Practical Equivalent
Savings account. TCS has a policy of only using up to 5% of the endowment income annually to keep the principal intact for long-term growth.

    Tax deductible?
Yes, but consult your tax advisor for details.
  • Annual Auction

    What it is
Fundraising event for the entire TCS community—both present and past.

    What it buys
Supports current capital projects as well as operating expenses.

    Practical Equivalent
A way to raise significant funds without depending on individual donations.

    Tax deductible?
Depends since goods (e.g., food and auction prizes) were exchanged for money. Consult a tax advisor for your situation.
