Tennis has a long and storied history at The Country School. Over the years, our teams have successfully competed against an array of strong opponents, including Hopkins, Foote, Chase, Ezra, Hamden Hall, and Mooreland Hill. We have had undefeated seasons and undefeated players, and we have also introduced athletes to the sport for the first time.

Countless players have taken their Country School tennis training on to the next level, competing for such outstanding high school programs as Choate, Daniel Hand, Hopkins, Hotchkiss, Suffield, and Williams. Additionally, we have alumni players competing at the Division I and Division III collegiate levels. One of our graduates, after being named All America for squash at Harvard, went on to play professional tennis.

The Rothberg Tennis Center

Building on that strong tradition, The Country School is proud to announce that the tennis program will now be housed at our new on-campus tennis facility, The Rothberg Tennis Center. Opening in Spring 2016, this incredible new facility will provide unlimited court time on its four, state-of-the-art courts. Coupled with outstanding coaching and our legendary commitment to sportsmanship, the Rothberg Tennis Center will make The Country School tennis program the program for elite middle school tennis players.

Drs. Bonnie and Jonathan Rothberg P ’13, ’15, ’23, ’25 generously donated the funds for this fabulous new facility in honor of their children. The courts, constructed by Connecticut’s finest court contractor, Dalton Track + Tennis, a Madison-founded company, will be among the finest independent school courts in the country.

Dalton, contractor for the Connecticut Tennis Center and nationally known as a leader in the court construction business, is completing the courts this spring in time for the 2016 season. David Beecher, The Country School’s Director of Development and the inaugural Director of the Connecticut Tennis Center when it opened, praises this new facility:

The bucolic location, the superior construction, and its place in our new athletic complex make it something our entire community can be proud of. New courts do not guarantee an undefeated team, but they do advance our program dramatically.

The Country School is grateful to the Rothberg family for making the tennis center a reality. We also thank the Coletti and Howey families for so generously supporting our tennis facility and growing tennis program.
