Off to a Strong Start: Girls' XC is undefeated

The girls' cross country team remains undefeated, having improved their record to 6-0 by winning the 1.7 mile meet against three other schools at Surf Club this week.

Led by 8th Grade captains Kayla and Catherine, the girls brought home three of the top five spots and five of the top ten. Kayla won the race in a personal best time of 11:33, followed closely by Catherine in 11:36. Sixth Grader Olivia took third for the team and fifth overall in a time of 11:44, while her classmate, Lila, came up through the pack to finish fourth for the team and ninth overall in a time of 12:02. Lila was followed by Margeaux, a 7th Grader, who ran a personal best time to finish tenth overall in a time of 12:05. Tessa, a  6th Grader, finished in a time of 13:14. They were followed across the line by Flying Owlets Caroline, Emma, and Natalie, all 4th Graders and each of whom set personal best times for the course.

The girls cooled down by watching the boys race. Eighth Grade captains Conor and Ryan led the whole way, pushing each other and stringing out the competition, both running personal best times on the course of 10:20 and 10:21, respectively. It was Conor's first win for The Country School.

They were followed by 4th Grader Sam,  who took third place for the team and 11th overall in a personal best time of 11:44. Fifth Grader Rich finished 12th overall and fourth for the team in a personal best time of 11:47. Fifth man was Connor, a 2nd Grader who loves to race and who came across the line in a personal best time of 12:16. Fourth Grader Christopher flashed across in a personal record of 13:07, followed by 8th Grade captains Quade and Christopher. Fourth Grader Miklosh came in at 14th place and Connor was 17th.

The race improved the boys' record to three wins and three losses, and both the boys’ and girls’ teams won what the runners consider the town championship by defeating Madison’s Polson Middle School and Madison’s Our Lady of Mercy School. The team’s next race is the Wickham Invitational, taking place in East Hartford this Saturday and bringing together top racers from across New England.
