- Middle School

The Country School baseball team started their season off with a victory against the Foote School and a loss to Hopkins. We have lucked out with the weather so far and been able to dodge the raindrops.
The Owls began the season taking on Foote at home. The team received very strong pitching performances from Joey S., Caleb B., and Luke P. enroute to their first victory of the year. Joey threw two scoreless, no-hit innings and struck out five batters. Caleb struck out four batters over two innings and yielded two hits. Luke pitched the fifth and final inning, striking out two batters. The hitting stars on the day were Joey S., Caleb B., and Cooper B., who each had two hits apiece. The final score was 11-0 in the Owls’ favor.
The home stand continued with a game versus Hopkins. The Owls were not as fortunate as they lost in five innings by a score of 19-2. Caleb B. began the game on the mound and continued to fire strike after strike against the opposition. Unfortunately, the defense struggled to secure outs, and Hopkins jumped out to a big lead. The defense did regain its form in the second inning with back to back great catches by centerfield Aidan M. and a tumbling catch by left fielder Mack B. David C. also made a wonderful catch at first base, snaring a line drive out of the air. Joey S. reached base in both his plate appearances, with a walk and a single. He and Cooper B. managed to score on a passed ball and errant play respectively.
The Owls will play their first road game of the season against Hamden Hall. I am looking forward to seeing the team put forth their best effort and grow as players. They are a fun group to coach!
