Like reading, writing, and arithmetic, physical education (PE) is considered a vital part of the core curriculum. At TCS, all students engage in regular physical education classes that are designed to introduce students to lifelong physical activities and physical fitness. PE classes also teach skill development, strategy, and technique, with a particular emphasis on teamwork and sportsmanship.
In addition, TCS fields an array of varsity and junior varsity athletic teams designed to satisfy the competitive athlete and novice alike. TCS also offers several instruction-based intramural athletic opportunities to its younger students.

Are the Country School teams competitive? And will my child play?
The Middle School participates in the Connecticut Independent School Athletic League, and each year several TCS students are named All League players. While over the years many TCS teams have won tournament championships and posted undefeated seasons, the emphasis for all teams is on sportsmanship, teamwork, and skill development. With our varsity and JV system, there is room on TCS teams for athletes who have no prior experience as well as for experienced athletes who already compete at a high level. No student is cut from a team and every child gets playing time. |

The Country School program is flexible enough so that students who are serious athletes may participate on additional teams outside of school. Many of our graduates have gone on to shine on teams in high school and beyond.
TCS fields teams in boys and girls soccer, cross country, basketball, swimming, tennis, and lacrosse; boys baseball; and girls softball.
