Through Summer Fun and Learning, The Country School is pleased to offer an array of fun, enriching, week-long summer camps as well as programs that meet throughout the summer. We will be adding offerings in the coming weeks - check back soon!

ONE WEEK OPPORTUNITIES

Victory Soccer

Full and half day options
Dates: June 26 - 30, July 10 - 14, July 24 - 28 (Advanced Week)
Times: 9 a.m. - noon or 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Ages: 5 - 14
Cost: $130 (morning only), $175 (morning and afternoon)
Instructors: Victory Soccer School coaches
Description: Our camp will feature soccer-based training, games, contests, and fun activities. The camp will also feature licensed and experienced coaches from Victory Soccer School. Players attending with their club team can train together. Players will have access to indoor activities in case of inclement weather. All players will receive a t-shirt and a participation medal. The camp will begin Monday and conclude on Friday with an awards ceremony. Please bring outdoor shoes/soccer cleats, soccer ball, water and lunch for full day campers.

Scratch with Mr. Robertson

Dates: June 26 - 30
Times: 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Ages: Students entering Grades 3 - 5
Cost: $225
Instructor: Andrew Robertson, Country School Library Media Specialist and Scratch teacher
Description: Students will spend the week coding with Scratch, a programming language designed specifically for young learners by experts at the MIT Media Lab. With Scratch, you can program your own interactive stories, games, and animations — and share your creations with others in the online community. Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively — essential skills for life in the 21st century. Minecraft and Crafting

Ages: Grade 1 and up
Dates: June 26 - 30
Time: 9 - 11:30 a.m.
Cost: $220
Instructor: Chris Arrandale
Description: Using iPads and the Minecraft app, students will collaborate to complete a series of building challenges in Minecraft. Additionally, they will have opportunities to create Minecraft-themed crafts. Snack time and outside play will be incorporated daily. No Minecraft experience necessary. Come learn what all the excitement is about!

The instructor, Chris Arrandale, TCS Class of 2014, currently attends Daniel Hand High School. He has worked at the Eli Whitney Museum for the past four years. There, he has taught numerous computer classes. including: Digital Photography, Scratch, CNC, and 3D Printing. He has coached the TCS Robotics team and is back again this summer teaching MInecraft in our summer's Summer Fun and Learning camp, along with 3D Printing.

3D Printing Course

Ages: Grade 6 - 8
Dates: June 26 - 30
Time: 12:30 - 3 p.m.
Cost: $220
Description: Students will learn how to design for 3D printing and other applications. Students will also use learn how to use precise measuring devices and use the measurements in our designs. Through testing, a solid understanding of the engineering process will be learned.

Running Camp

Dates: June 26 - 30
Time: 9 a.m. - noon
Ages: 9 - 14

Description: Description: Spend five days at the start of summer (and, if desired, then two days a week throughout the summer) learning about and practicing the greatest and oldest sport in the world—cross-country and distance running. Featuring elite coaches, individualized instruction and scenic runs that often end with a swim, you’ll walk away—no, you’ll run away!—with an unforgettable experience and fine-tuned skills, hungry for the fall season to start. Our hands-on approach and expertise make this camp unique, whether you are a good runner trying to become great or a novice runner just learning the sport. Our coaches possess deep skills, both in the sport of running and as educators working with children. Your child will leave our camp at the end of the week or end of the summer a better athlete and a more confident student. We teach the campers about running, discipline, and motivation.

Word Play: Creative Writing at The Country School

Dates: July 10 - 14
Time: 9 a.m. - noon
Ages: Grades 3 - 5

Instructor: Kristin Liu, Country School English teacher
Description: This week-long camp will provide a fun and thoughtful way for students to explore their world – and express themselves – through the written word. We will dabble in poetry, food reviews, nature writing, and flash fiction, to name a few, with activities designed to hook beginning writers and stretch those with more experience. Kids will become comfortable sharing their work with a supportive, immediate audience and will benefit from collaboration and feedback from their peers. Far from being a static, in-your-seat experience, young writers should come prepared for outdoor exploration, candy taste-tests, dance parties, yoga, and more! Come join us and learn just how much fun playing with words can be!

Art Camp

Date: July 10 - 14
Time: 9 a.m. - noon
Ages: Grades K - 5
Instructor: The Country School Art Educator, Stephanie Smelser
Cost: $225
Description: Come to TCS for a summer art adventure. Students will spend time both outside in nature and inside the art studio learning about artists and creating art inspired by those selected artists. Students will experience many art mediums and styles during this camp. Comics, clay, paint and more!

Debate Camp

Dates: July 10 - 14
Time: 1- 4 p.m.
Ages: Grades 5 - 8
Cost: $225
Instructor: Dori Antonetti, NYC Office of Labor Relations Hearing Review Officer and Member of the NY and Washington, DC Bars
Description: In this week-long camp, students will learn how to construct and refute arguments based on reason, evidence, and logic. Working in teams, students will brainstorm and develop their ideas on opposing sides of proposed motions. Students will also practice public speaking skills with regard to both planned and impromptu remarks on a variety of debate topics. Students will conduct research and learn how to identify and cite reliable sources, identify main and supporting points, and organize and synthesize information and evidence in support of their assertions. Throughout the course of the week, students will engage in critical and analytical thinking, work collaboratively, gain confidence as speakers, strengthen civil engagement and discourse, and have fun! The week will culminate with students participating in a full-length parliamentary debate.

Intro to Algebra - The Next New World
Dates: July 17 - 21
Time: 9 a.m. - noon
Ages: Entering Grade 5-7
Cost: $225
Instructors: Tina Garrity & Melissa Mitko - Tina Garrity has taught math at both Daniel Hand High School and Southern Connecticut State University. Melissa Mitko teaches 6th Grade Math in Clinton Public Schools. She was chosen as Teacher of the Year in 2009 and won the President's Excellence Award in Mathematics and Science.
Description: Intro to Algebra is a fun, fast paced introduction to the world of algebra. Students will be exposed to algebra through awesome math labs and STEM based projects. This camp will provide an exceptional foundational base for discovery and knowledge. This opportunity will take the fear of algebra and math and throw it out the window! Students will enjoy collaboration with peers, math discovery, mindfulness & peace, and the everlasting quest to find “X”. We hope to leave them curious and excited to find out how and why algebra becomes the fabric of our mathematical world.

Young Actors’ Workshop

Dates: July 24 - 28
Time: 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Ages: Grades 3 - 8
Cost: $220
Instructor: Emily Hope Webster, theater instructor
Description: An acting intensive workshop designed to educate the Young Artist to the principles of Acting. Students will participate in a series of theater and improv games to warm up their muscles and liberate their creativity. With a focus on Character and Story, discovering objectives, relationships and choices, each Young Actor will be given scenes or monologues. Through improv and scene study, we will explore Character Development, Sensory Work, and Body Movement. Creating a safe and fun environment, students will be equipped with the tools to discover their authentic voice. Each participant will walk away from this course with a renewed sense of confidence which can applied to all aspects of life. Class will culminate in an informal performance.

Beginning Robotics

Dates: July 24 - 28
Time: 9 a.m. - noon
Ages: Entering Grade 4 - 8
Cost: $225
Instructors: Amy Cornell, Country School science teacher and robotics coach
Description: Never built or programmed a robot using Legos? No problem. This camp is designed to teach you how to build and program robot creations using Lego Mindstorms©. Beginner campers will work in small groups while encouraged to follow the FIRST™ Lego League Core Values in constructing robots that will teach building techniques and beginning programming.

Multi Sport Camp with Madison Racquet and Swim Club

Description: The Country School is teaming up with Madison Racquet and Swim Club to provide an 11-week Sports Program that will include Tennis, Basketball, Baseball, Field Hockey, Soccer, and Lacrosse. The Program will be for children ages 4-6 (Little Sports) and 7-14 (Big Sports). We will offer both half and full day options. Early drop-off and late pick-up are also available.
