The Buildings and Grounds Committee was successful in keeping the standard committee charges and pursuing Phase One of the Master Plan during the 2003/2004 fiscal year. Standard committee activities encompassed:
- Ensuring that ongoing capital projects and upgrades support the school's mission statement and conformance to parameters outlined in the Master Plan;
- Annual review of the five-year facilities capital maintenance plan and projects that are prioritized and supported by the annual operating budget;
- Ensuring the ongoing safety and code compliance of the school facilities. To this end the committee discussed the value of engaging a consultant to prepare a property condition assessment.
On a planning level, Buildings and Grounds has spent considerable time investigating Phase One of the Master Plan. Phase One prioritized three projects: An improved roadway system, improved athletic fields, and a new student center. The committee, supported by the Board of Trustees, pursued the design development of the road system and the requirements for this portion of the project to reach fruition. TCS has received Town of Madison approval from the Wetlands Commission, the Advisory Committee for Community Aesthetics, and the Planning and Zoning Committee. Construction of the roadway system remains our first priority.
Buildings and Grounds continues to be very active during 2004/2005 organizing two work groups:
Today Group was asked to facilitate the process of a property con-dition assessment also known as a "facilities audit." The group has met and outlined the scope of service for the audit, as well as identifying vendors who can
provide professional services. We look forward to the process and to the report, which will be prepared with a 10-year view and become a very valuable reference for both the administration and board members as we plan for future capital maintenance in conjunction with the Master Plan.
Tomorrow Group is charged with initiating discussion regarding Phase One of the Master Plan with the Development, Finance, and Long Range Planning Committees of the Board, as well as continuing to explore options for establishing the time line for implementation of each project.
Many thanks to the members of the Buildings and Grounds Committee for their dedicated work in maintaining and improving our present facilities and keeping the Master Plan clear on our horizon.
