Announcing a Record-Breaking Year of Generosity

The Country School opened its doors for the 2015-2016 school with an ambitious goal for its 60th anniversary − the first major transformation to campus since the construction of Blatchford Learning Center in 1997. Shaping the Future−The Campaign for the 60th Anniversary has raised more than $1.4 million in capital funds in 15 months, allowing the school to move forward with segments of the Campus Master Plan, which was developed by trustees, parents, and teachers in 2001.

The much-anticipated construction generated two new sod-covered soccer fields, a baseball/softball diamond, four state-of-the-art tennis courts, a full-size basketball court, Class of 2016 patio and pergola, renovated playground, Gaga pit, and repositioned ropes course. An aerial view of the yards and yards of sod installation was captured on video by Madison resident and teacher David Buller and edited by alumnus Christopher Arrandale '14. Owls Soar in Opening Game - from Coach Wainio

The Country School junior varsity soccer team cruised to a 7-1 victory in their opening match against the Pine Point School. The game was characterized by excellent passing, gritty defense and accurate shooting. The 6th Graders led the way, as Jenson T. got the scoring started early in the game and finished with a goal and an assist. Jackson C. made the most of his touches on the ball, scoring three goals and adding two assists. Ian M. scored twice and played well on both ends of the field, offense and defense.  The 5th Graders got in on the scoring as well, as Mason W. scored late in the game with an assist from Noah M. Christopher C. had an active day in the goal, stopping five Pine Point shots.  Alexander B. was a leader on the defense, communicating well with his teammates and clearing several balls out of danger.

It was a great first outing for the team, and all players demonstrated the skills we have been working on during our athletic periods and work with Coach Callum. Best of all, each player demonstrated sportsmanship and hustle throughout the game. The JV team will be back in action next Monday, as they will once again play Pine Point School in an away game. Go Owls!

Congratulations from Coach Wallack

Congratulations on a great start to the season for the girls varsity soccer team. Their record currently stands at 4-0, with wins over St. John's, Foote, OLM, and Hamden Hall. The team is led by quad captains Jane Golden, Emily McGuane, Annabelle Smith, and Kaylee Armenia. The team consists of fifteen girls from 5th Grade through 8th Grade. Please stop by to watch them play.

Next week we are home versus IDS on Tuesday, October 25 and will take part in a co-ed game at home also vs. Ezra Academy on Thursday, October 27.

A special thanks to our guest soccer instructor, Coach Callum from Connecticut Rush premier soccer, who has been working with our girls and all our teams this fall!

Hurray! Birthday Books are Back!

The Birthday Book program has been a long-standing tradition at The Country School. Children are gifted books that are then donated to the Elmore Library.

The process is simple:

  1. Love your local (Either choose a book yourself or head to RJ Julia or Breakwater Books and peruse our wish list) or log into our Amazon wish list to click and buy.
  2. Provide Librarian Andrew Robertson with the book to be processed and cataloged.
  3. Books are distributed at All School Meetings, announced along with your child's birthday.
  4. Tradition holds that the recipient of the book is the first to read it before returning it to the Elmore Library for others to enjoy.
  5. Questions? Contact Andrew Robertson.
