Owl’s Comeback Falls Short in Season Opener

by Jason Wainio, Soccer Coach

The varsity girls and junior varsity boys paired up on Tuesday afternoon to take on a coed team from the St. John’s School.  The first ten minutes proved rough for the Owls, as St. John’s quickly grabbed a 4-0 advantage.  The Country team found their footing and began to chip into the lead.  Lila S. scored the first goal on a great assist from teammate Maggie C.  Elliott B. opened his scoring account on the year, to cut the lead in half, 4-2.  The score remained there at the break.  In the second half, the Owl’s scored again, with Olivia Z. scoring on a pass from Will B.  The St. John’s team regained their balance and added one more goal, making the final score 5-3 in their favor.  The combined Owls team never quit and played with a great deal of heart to the very end.
